The High Line Canal Conservancy is proud to participate in Colorado Gives Day for the third year in support of our beloved High Line Canal.

This year, your Colorado Gives Day donations are multiplied in impact …

  1. All gifts made on Colorado Gives Day will support the Canal Canopy Fund!
  2. All gifts up to $15,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor!
  3. All gifts on Colorado Gives Day help the Conservancy receive a portion of the $1 Million incentive fund!

What is Colorado Gives Day?

Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and foster philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. This year, Community First Foundation and FirstBank each contributed $500,000 to create a $1,000,000 incentive fund. The High Line Canal Conservancy will receive a portion of the incentive fund based on the proportion of donations it receives during the 24-hour window on December 5th. The more the Conservancy brings in, the more it will receive from the incentive fund. Click here for more information.

What is the Canal Canopy Fund?

The Canal Canopy Fund is the first-ever fund dedicated solely to help maintain and plan for a safe, vibrant tree canopy along all 71 miles of the Canal. The fund is managed by the High Line Canal Conservancy and supported by individual donations.

The Canal Canopy Fund will help support planning for the long-term care of the High Line Canal tree canopy. Throughout the vision and framework planning process, we have heard citizens’ strong concern for the condition of the Canal’s trees. Keeping this in mind, one of the Conservancy’s top priorities moving forward is long-term tree care, management and canopy rejuvenation. Today, the High Line Canal Conservancy is working closely with Denver Water and the 11 jurisdictions along the Canal’s reach to:

  • Establish and monitor standards for removal and pruning that fulfill the Community Vision Plan for the High Line Canal;
  • Coordinate the accounting of each jurisdiction’s investment in the project;
  • Leverage private funding to ensure long-term, high-quality care of the entire tree canopy; and
  • Manage the tree data gathered along the Canal corridor.
  • As part of Framework Planning, lead the development of Landscape Design Guidelines, which will establish a long-term plan for tree care, maintenance and enhancements.

How will my dollars be matched?

Thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor, every contribution up to $15,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar and dedicated to the Canal Canopy Fund. Give early or schedule your donation now to ensure that your gift will be matched. Every dollar you give will be multiplied in impact as it will also be leveraged by the Community First Foundation’s $1,000,000 incentive fund.

Follow us on social media on December 5th to see how much we’ve raised. Every dollar given on December 5th will be dedicated to the Canal Canopy Fund – even once we reach out $15,000 match!

How can I give on Colorado Gives Day?

Donate to the High Line Canal Conservancy anytime beginning at 12 Am on December 5th by visiting the Conservancy’s Colorado Gives Day Overview Page.

Don’t want to wait that long? You can schedule your donation in advance by clicking here: Schedule your Colorado Gives Day Donation.

Can I join as a High Line Hero member on Colorado Gives Day?

If you’ve been out on the Canal recently, you’ve probably seen our orange “Be a High Line Hero” signs. Launched in April this year, the High Line Heroes are part of a passionate community of private citizens committed to preserving, protecting and enhancing the High Line Canal today and for the next generation of Coloradans. Gifts made on Colorado Gives Day are not eligible for High Line Hero membership, but membership is still vital to the future of the Canal! Membership dollars provide sustainable funding to help the Conservancy fulfill it’s mission to preserve, protect and enhance all 71 miles of the High Line Canal in partnership with the public. About Colorado Gives Day

Colorado Gives Day, presented by Community First Foundation and FirstBank, is powered by ColoradoGives.org, a year-round website featuring more than 2,000 nonprofits. ColoradoGives.org encourages charitable giving by providing comprehensive, objective and up-to-date information about Colorado nonprofits and an easy way to support them online.

How it works …
The fund increases the value of every dollar donated proportionally. For example, if we receive 10 percent of the total donations made on Colorado Gives Day, we will receive 10 percent of the $1 Million Incentive Fund.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Lindsay Moery, Program and Development Associate, at Lindsay@highlinecanal.org or 720.767.2452.

Ever wonder how this man-made infrastructure became lined with such a spectacular canopy of cottonwood trees? Look no further than mile 1.4 where you can find an old cottonwood grove thought to be the seedbed for thousands of trees downstream along both the High Line Canal and the South Platte River.
