February is when many celebrate love, with Valentine’s Day centered around celebrating relationships. This year, we asked Canal users to share their relationship with the Canal, specifically what everyone loves. We are excited to share a few of these “love stories” with you!

Laura has so much appreciation for the Canal, from the paths that lead through places where owls’ nests and coyotes roam to wildflowers and trees. “I love the variety of trails,” says Laura. Cottonwoods are one of Laura’s favorite trees and she enjoys seeing the shapes they form. The tree pictured here is Laura’s phone screensaver and always makes her smile.

Betty and Buddy are on the Canal most every day. One of their favorite features is that there is always something new to see, even if you’ve walked the Canal a hundred times before. Betty says, “Buddy, my golden retriever, loves the Canal.”

Mark enjoys biking and finds the Canal a great place to ride with through Cherry Hills Village. You don’t have to take the same route again and again to get to your destination. “I love that I can make any bike ride an adventure,” says Mark.

Joyce spent the summer of 2021 walking the entire 71 miles of the High Line Canal Trail, learning so much about Colorado and the cities she walked through. It was an excellent way for her to get outdoors and Joyce wanted to share the joy of the Canal. Joyce’s neighbor is immune-compromised, so Joyce offered to take her neighbor’s 12-year-old Australian Shepherd on the trail. Together, they had a fantastic time completing the Canal. “I love everything about the Canal,” says Joyce.

Kathy lives in Windsor Gardens and loves the Canal. “I consider it my backyard,” says Kathy. We think this makes for a pretty spectacular view from your yard.

Thank you to everyone who submitted kind words and photos. Our hearts are full this Valentine’s Day because of the amazing Canal Community.
