Accessibility Walk Audit

The High Line Canal Conservancy is prioritizing outdoor accessibility along the trail through an accessibility audit. Students from University of Colorado Boulder’s Masters of the Environment program have audited each segment of the trail for safety and physical accessibility concerns through collecting data about the trail’s conditions. Now, volunteers are needed to conduct walk audits to provide additional accessibility information from the trail user’s perspective. Findings will be shared with the public to increase awareness about the trail’s accessibility.

What is a walk audit?

It is when participants observe and evaluate the walkability of a location to identify and document pedestrian safety during travel. Learn more by viewing the AARP Walk Audit Toolkit.

This project is funded in part by a 2024 Community Challenge grant from AARP. The AARP Community Challenge grant program funds innovative, quick-action projects that inspire change and is all part of AARP’s nationwide work on livable communities, which supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities and counties across the country to become great places for all. To learn more about the projects being funded by the AARP Community Challenge across the nation, including all 343 granted projects this year, visit aarp.org/CommunityChallenge.
