On May 31st we had the honor of hosting Governor John Hickenlooper for a bike ride celebrating the Canal as one of the top 16 priority trails in Colorado as part of his “16 in 2016” Initiative as well as the ribbon cutting of the Triple Creek Trail and High Line Canal connection in Aurora. This marked the launch of our public outreach and vision planning phase – click here to get involved.

Local students from Environmental Learning For Kids (ELK) participated in a bicycle safety training with Bicycle Colorado. They kicked off the bike ride with Governor John Hickenlooper.

“Today begins a region-wide conversation led by the High Line Canal Conservancy to rehabilitate this beloved corridor into a legacy greenway that unifies and celebrates the distinct communities it intersects. This project joins a statewide effort to get people outdoors and connect with the beauty of Colorado.”

-Governor John Hickenlooper

The Conservancy was joined by elected officials from across the eleven jurisdictions along the Canal’s reach, as well as partner organizations, including Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) and Bicycle Colorado. The Governor rode 8 miles of the Canal with the High Line Canal Conservancy’s Executive Director, Harriet Crittenden LaMair, High Line Canal Conservancy board members, Aurora students, elected officials and leaders of state agencies and local organizations. They experienced a beautiful portion of the trail within Aurora and even passed a group of deer along the way!
